1. Meta Unveils Llama 3.1 and It’s Pretty Impressive

Meta just released its most advanced open-source AI model called Llama 3.1 with some impressive capabilities, including a 405B parameter model.

You can read the full announcement from Meta by clicking here, but here are two quick takeaways:

1) Unlike closed models like GPT-4o and Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Llama 3.1 is open-source, which means that you can see how the model works and can build customized AI applications on top of it - this is huge for businesses.

2) Previous versions of open-source models had a disadvantage because they were not as good as the closed-source ones. However, this latest Llama 3.1 model not only rivals the closed-source models but actually beats them in 7 out of 15 benchmarks.

A great article published by Ethan Mollick discusses a specific blind spot he’s seen after talking to many business leaders: very few organizations are factoring in the potential of continuous AI improvement in their plans.

Although no one can predict the future, he argues that “You don’t need to know what happens next to realize that you should be planning for multiple contingencies.”

And he goes on to write that there are four potential futures for AI that companies should plan for:
