1. 75% Now Use Gen AI at Work: Adoption is Skyrocketing
AI adoption at work is skyrocketing (it doubled in 6 months with 75% using it at work), and power users are seeing significant benefits: they manage workloads better, increase creativity, and better optimize their workday.
However, there's a small caveat to those stats.
This visual (from Microsoft's & LinkedIn's 2024 work trend index report) shows that workers are using AI tools not provided by their organization
This is a huge miss by organizations that are still taking their time to adopt gen AI technologies (not to mention the potential privacy & securing risks involved).
2. Copyright Issues with Gen AI
One of the copyright issues that constantly arises with Gen AI is the idea of “fair use,” where you need to ask for permission (or pay someone) to use their data before you can train or monetize models.
This short podcast snippet from a while ago gives a quick overview of why this is an issue (and why some organizations were sued).

Ethan Mollick recently shared an image of him giving a talk, in which he gave ChatGPT images from his family trip.
I don’t think people realize how capable mutlimodal AI is, right now, out of the box.
As I discussed in my talk today, I gave GPT-4V some pictures from a family trip (without metadata) and it was able to figure out where we were, track people over time, and figure out context.

The best feature is that GPT-4V, a multimodal AI model, recognized that the boy in the second picture was the same as the one in the first picture.
This can have great applications in business. For example, an LLM could potentially remember screenshots during helpdesk troubleshooting with a customer.
